My Acer x263w displays 'No Signal' right in the middle of the screen, unmoving too, when my Win 7 x64 PC is asleep. It is connected to an ATI 5450 chipset video card via HDMI.
I have 2 other monitors flanking it, both LG 22-in ones, each connected to the PC via DVI. The LGs are blanked out when the PC is asleep.
I am mildly concerned about burn-in though I don't think LCDs really suffer from this (I've seen it when a server's LCD had the login image burned it into after have left it on like this for months. It seemed to have gone away after turn it off for a while). So again I'm not really worried about burn-in.
It's just that:
1) it's annoying
2) looks dumb
3) the monitor appears to be 'on', i.e. power button is lit blue whereas if the monitor was really asleep, it would be orange. Thus maybe some small amount of power wasted; some wear and tear maybe.
So something about the Win 7 box, the ATI card, or maybe the fact that it's HDMI, is keeping the monitor 'on' but not supplying it with a signal so it's complaining.
Is there anything I can do about it? The PC appears to be in a deep sleep. No fans running; all lights off. I hit the power button and it wakes up right away and the monitors appear to work as expected.
